Repeat Prescriptions

Your prescription will be issued together with a slip showing your medication. Please check that this record is correct.

When requesting a repeat prescription please bring or post this record to the surgery and indicate the items you need.

We now have a brand new repeat prescription box in the foyer area of both surgeries.

Please post your repeat prescriptions in this box of if you do not wish to enter the buildings due to the current pandemic, you may still use the letter box outside the front entrance or hand into your nominated pharmacy.

You can also request a repeat prescription using our online ordering service via the link at the top of this page. Unless already registered for this service, please contact either reception to request details of how to do this.

We can no longer take repeat prescription requests over the phone.

If you would like your prescription posted to you please send us an SAE. 

Some of the local pharmacists have made arrangements to collect prescriptions from the surgery. Details of this service can be obtained from the receptionist.

Medication Reviews

Please read the side of your prescription - a reminder for a medication review will sometimes be printed on your repeat prescription section. Your medication will not be renewed until you have had an appointment with your doctor.

Please remember to make the appointment before your medication runs out.

Electronic Repeat Dispensing (eRD)

We are currently attempting to put as many patients as possible on to the Electronic Repeat Dispensing (eRD) scheme using the Electronic Prescription Service (EPS).

This means your nominated pharmacy will hold a certain number of monthly scripts on the spine (at the discretion of the practice), which you can collect directly from the pharmacy every month(s) without needing to reorder via your surgery.

You do not need to order your repeat prescription during this period, until the pharmacy advises that it is time to do so.

Once all the monthly scripts have been used, you will then be notified by your pharmacy to have a review at your GP surgery.

This is to help the overflow of prescriptions being signed by the GP practice. Instead of signing the prescription every month, the GP will be able to sign one script which will sign off all scripts for the next 6 to 12 months for the medication requested.

At this moment in time we are trialling with only regular medication. However, eventually we hope to switch most medications over to eRD.

Help with NHS costs

In England, around 90% of prescription items are dispensed free. This includes exemptions from charging for those on low incomes, such as:

  • those on specific benefits or through the NHS Low Income Scheme
  • those who are age exempt
  • those with certain medical conditions

NHS Charges

These charges apply in England only. In Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales prescriptions are free of charge.

  • Prescription (per item): £9.35
  • 12-month prepayment certificate (PPC): £108.10
  • 3-month PPC: £30.25

If you will have to pay for four or more prescription items in three months or more than 14 items in 12 months, you may find it cheaper to buy a PPC.

Covid Update

Any patient who usually collects there paper FP10 prescriptions from us, will temporarily not be able to do this, due to the current pandemic.

Instead, we will be passing these prescriptions on to the closest pharmacy to the surgery or to the alternate pharmacy the patient requests.

Please do not order more than you need. For most medicines, the Practice policy is to issue 28 days' of medication at a time. This reduces medicine wastage.

Medication Changes

If you have recently had your medication changed by the hospital, your records may not be updated immediately as a discharge letter (containing details of medication changes) can take several days to arrive at the surgery. 

Please contact reception to confirm any new medication that has been added at the time of your discharge - as well as the old medicine that you are no longer taking (so we can remove it where appropriate).
